Highly unlikely. They are making sure there is no unauthorized software on the computer, that the antivirus software is up to date, and you have the latest security patches. Oh, and geek is a disparaging term. Treat your IT staff with respect and they will help you in a crunch.

It depends… You can work for yourself where you have unlimited potential for earning $ $ $ , but the tough work of building up your clients from scratch. So you will be working a lot of hours in the beginning, but if you are successful will work fewer hours later. Companies that hire for this type of position include Ameriprise, Edward Jones, Northwestern Mutual, Merrill Lynch, and UBS. You will notice that these jobs are usually available because it is difficult to build a client base.

There are lots of independent financial planning firms where you would service existing clients. Decent pay with regular hours, but significantly less than if you were successful on your own.

The banks and insurance companies also have various positions. With some companies you market directly to clients and others you can market to other advisors.

With the baby boomers starting to retire you won’t have a hard time finding a job if you become a CFP(r) Professional. The challenge will just be finding a company that fits you best. As a rule of thumb the more responsibility you have for finding your own clients the more you will make…but the more you will work… Good luck!
