i don’t know, but he (and the commercial) is so incredibly annoying and insulting to my intelligence, that i purposely don’t go to freecreditreport.com to check my credit.
as a wealth management firm employee, i can tell you this:
you have 3 main credit scores called FICO scores. (Fair Isaac Corporation)
there are 3 main credit bureaus: Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion.
you should only check your credit once a year; twice at the very most. lenders don’t like to see that you are constantly checking your score because it signals to them that you may be untrustworthy.
your FICO score is the number most lenders will use, therefore you should go to http://www.myfico.com. although you have to pay about $50, it’s better because you can check all three scores.
you can request a free copy of your credit report once a year from each of the 3 big credit bureaus by going to http://www.annualcreditreport.com or by calling their 877 number.
there are many imposter web sites out there that try to scam you, and actually end up charging a small fee even though they claim to be ‘free’. http://www.annualcreditreport.com is the ONLY web site authroized by the U.S. government to provide free annual credit reports.
