Someone told me that you need a passport to foreign currency back to your bank. I have a lot of spare parts and € pounds more from my days of travel and my passport is left over.
Not in most countries. However you may be required to identify yourself if the amount is large and that requires a photo ID (legal requirement in some countries, as large financial transactions often have to be reported to authorities and are recorded and investigated as possible money laundering operations).
