what causes gold jewelry to make a black mark on the skin?
Lately, when my daughter in law wears gold jewelry she gets a black or grayish area where the ring, bracelet, etc has been. And, YES, it is real gold! What can cause this?

Is it gold plated?
Some people are allergic to some metals. A more common allergy is to nickel. ((You used to be able to test this with an old American nickel. You would take it, rest it on your arm, and after a little bit, remove it, and you would see the allergic reaction on the spot where it had rested.))

Okay, I checked. Some poeple do have an allergic reaction, but it is more frequent if the patient also has gold fillings.
The best thing you should do is suggest she go to see a dermatologist. They can then determine exactly why she is reacting.

This is caused by a chemical reaction between the metal and the skin. I have the same problem. I can only wear 10k or higher gold and I can’t wear silver at all. No one has been able to explain why this happens to me, only that it has to do with the way my body chemicals react to the metal. Hope this helps.

allergic reaction to the metal. my niece is allergic to real gold 10k 14k 18k 21k 24k …doesn’t matter what that karat is..she’s allergic…her skin turns black greenish. anyways, buy your daughter in law eternagold…real gold without the side effects. works for my niece.
