Who are the best and worst car insurance?
I am looking for car insurance new research and would like other peoples experiences to help me pick. Thank you!

The National Association of Insurance Commissioners maintains a public database of the relative complaint levels for various companies, the level is given in comparison to the average of all.
Here’s a site with a graph comparing 11 major companies, GMAC was the worst, but to be fair they are so small that 1 complaint more or less would change their percentages significantly. 2nd worse was The General. The lowest complaint level was for State Farm, while the second best was Progressive.
Sometimes price trumps customer satisfaction, several states insurance departments provide sample rate comparisons that are great guides for first cut price shopping.

Hi,
You want to stay away from Direct Writers such as Allstate, State Farm, Farmers, Auto Club. With Direct Writers, you are stuck only with that company, they are mostly just sales people and many times they do not sell the appropriate policy to the customer. Look at the past news regarding the problems people encounterd with the insurance obtained through them. You want to find a repetible Insurance Agent by where you live. One that writes insurance through admitted carriers and not non-admitted carriers. Non-admitted means they are not admitted to do business in the USA. With those carriers, if you have a claim, beware, as you might not get reimbursed and they could go insolvent. Through a repetible agent who writes with admitted carriers, they usually have more than a handful to pick from and you can choose the best company based on their ratings, premiums and limits of coverages provided. I personally recommend Safeco Insurance Company, Mercury Insurance Company, Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company, Chubb Insurance Company, Traveler’s Insurance Company, Progressive Insurance Company and several other “A” rated or higher companies out there through Independent Insurance Agents. They put your information in the computer and find the best price of all the companies they write with. Again, be sure they meet the other standards I mentioned. Good Luck to you! -

Top 3 companies in sales volume are Allstate, State Farm, and Farmers. High volume = ability to pay claims if you need it. There are TONS of 1-800 and internet insurers, but they can be a crap-shoot as to their financial stability, reliability on paying claims, etc. Some companies will give you a run around for months if they can get away with it.
Find a local agent you trust and go that way. Allstate and State Farm are good companies, but they only write one auto product – Allstate and State Farm. Farmers is more diversified, and owns more than one company, so their agents can shop around somewhat looking for a better rate. For example the Farmers product is great for those with good credit scores, good driving records, and older drivers – but if you’re younger or have other issues, their Bristol West product (owned by Farmers) is usually cheaper. They also now own 21st Century, and should be writing that product soon as well.
Disclosure: I’m a Farmers agent, so possibly a little biased. Though, I’d still suggest always going with a local agent, not a 1-800 # or website. It’s just nice to deal with a person, not a talking gecko or pink-haired cartoon.

You get what you pay for …. (honest).
Yes, you can save a lot of money buying insurance online with some no-name company but if or when you have an accident you need to know they will handle the claim with your best interest in mind — and most small companies simply do not have the resources to do this. Giant companies like State Farm have an army of claims personnel and claims centers across the entire country so no matter where you have a crash they are usually nearby. Their agents can be found in every city, town, hamlet and cross roads and if you should happen to run over a beaver in Rockdead, Montana you can be certain there will be a State Farm agent nearby that can help you secure rental vehicle, hotel room, etc. Combine all this with a solid claims practice and an A+++ rating and you can rest comfortably after bumping a school bus on an icy road and having fifty hysterical parents rush fifty kids to the ER and all file fifty lawsuits (in the same day). -

You could actually be looking for a good broker. Do you want an expert to sit with you and work out what you are looking for in insurance? Do you want a partnership type relationship?
Do you want to be able to pick up the phone and talk to someone or go to their office for a face-to-face. Do you want someone to help you as you go through life’s changes. Buying your first vehicle, tenant’s insurance, buying a house, taking a trip outside the country, wondering about your child’s belongings when they are away at college?
Or perhaps you just want to do it quick and easy and not think too much about it and hope for the best. Then you might be better off with online.
You will have to do the research to find what you want. Everyone is different.

Well from my experience Allstate treated me very well, but they were quite expensive. Allstate was expensive even with both of us being older and with a clean driving record. We switched to Geico and it has been great. The insurance was cheaper, and we have someone to speak with 24/7 on the phone. We had a slide-off this Christmas, and Geico was pleasant and fast to deal with.
