As an advertising creative for the past 30+ years I’ve rarely seen a campaign so brilliant and charming. Robert Burkhart’s playing evokes the imagery’s narrative perfectly. And why isn’t Mr. Burkhart using this better for publicity? There’s no mention of it on his site. This sort of exposure for any classical musician is rare. He should swallow hard and show up on every talk show he can while the spot’s still running.

AMERICAN EXPRESS CREDIT CARD? TEAR IT UP. DO NOT BELIEVE THEIR COMMERCIALS. I cancelled an order within 24 hours, called and notified them. Then I got the charge amount as $10K instead of the $1K I had agreed to. AmEx put the matter into dispute for months. I notified AmEx that this was an attempt to defraud and that I did not even have the goods as they were to be delivered in 4-6 weeks they were not. And now AmEx has sued me for $10K!

I’m a painter and a musician before I’m a marketer. I love to bite the hand that feeds me and abhor most marketing techniques.
As an artist with many poor friends in the arts and a few that are doing well, I see the difference between managing a career so that you can eat vs. never getting close to it.
While Mr. Burkhart is known, this has exposed so many who know nothing of classical music to a gorgeous piece, over and over. It would be nice if people knew his name as they do Yo Yo Ma’s.

I highly doubt that Francois and Jean Robert were the first creative people – or laymen for that matter – to explore this concept either.
The ad business, just like art, music, photography and literature is full of people revisiting the same ideas over and over for better or worse. Everything has already been done. Best you can hope for is a new twist, an original detail to add to it or a beautiful execution.

Yes I was going to mention Yo Yo Ma’s performance- brilliant! I can imagine there is only a certain amount of credit a musician can receive for playing a piece that has already been created, especially if a number of well known musicians have already performed the piece with the same instrument already. Perhaps Mr. Burkhart is even lucky to have it playing in this commercial. Regardless, a low percentage of people in America are into this type of music, that in itself is a problem.

I’m sorry but if you’re so concern about the piece getting stolen or something, you need to observe more things in life… Most people don’t even know who Robert Burkhart is. The commercial is cute and charming in a way and it delivers its message. It’s a great commercial overall!
