I assume someone tried to steal my motorbike last night, the handle bar is twisted and the steering lock broken, Will i be covered for this under third party fire and theft insurance, even though the theft did not actually occur? I know how shit insurance companies can be be?

I would assume that would be covered under your comprehensive part of the policy assuming you have comp/collision.
Read your policy under theft and see if attempted theft damage is covered.

It should do, obviously your policy is the first place you should look.
However, before you make a claim find out how much it is to repair it and compare that to your excess and how much you might lose from No Claims Bonus.
And don’t rely on the steering lock, they are easy to break (and the handlebar can be damaged in the attempt).

Atempted theft should be covered, you will have to advise the police and ask them for a case number to report to your insurance company….. But before you do that check what your insurance excess is and if you make a claim you may loose any no claims discount you have at renewal time. It might be cheaper to repair it and not claim.
