I live in Florida and there is no such thing as CHEAP homeowners insurance here at all. After what happened with those hurricanes (Rita, Wilma, etc.), insurance companies are pretty much afraid of homes here, the claims reversed 5 years of profits in one swipe.
The State had to step in to provide insurance unless a company stepped forward and was willing to offer insurance. Well a few did but they are DAMN expensive and becaue the State’s insurance is last resort, you pretty much HAVE to take the private insurance or go without – which of course lots of mortgage companies and banks would not like.

In Ohio. Seriously, there IS no cheap homeowners insurance in Florida – people are usually pretty darned lucky to find ANY AT ALL, outstide the state fund.
And with THREE homes there, at least two are probably rentals – rentals are relatively undesirable ANYWHERE.
So if you have ANY coverage in place right now, keep it. It’s only going to get worse.

Hey Tracy,
I agree with the top answerer person. In costal states like Florida, Louisiana, Texas where you have hurricanes and such. Its not so much as a question of if one of your 3 houses will sustain damage as when.
If you want to skimp on home insurance, buy properties in Montana not in the state with the highest incidence of disaster in the nation.
