22 yr old athletic male looking for health insurance, can gym membership lower premiums?
Question : 22 yr old athletic male looking for health insurance, can gym membership lower premiums?
Hello everyone, little background about me.
I am 22 years old, male, and am in great physical shape. Unfortunately, I am unemployed (laid off, got no coverage cause it’s part time) and a problem with my financial aid in the state of Nevada prevent me from finishing school until fall of this year.
I am trying to find affordable health insurance that primarily covers emergencies and accidents. I am in great physical health, and I never really have to see a doctor more than once or twice a year. I don’t smoke, rarely drink, and besides having Runner’s Knee (mild discomfort), there is nothing wrong with me. However, I do want to get into sports again, including Brazillian Jiu Jitsu and maybe boxing, and I want to be covered in the event of sports injury, cause well, accidents happen.
Next question. I have been going to the same gym since 2000, and I go at least five days a week. Is it possible to negotiate premiums down based on my membership and commitment to going? Money is very tight right now, and I keep in good shape, so I want to get covered while not paying exhorbitant amounts for private insurance until I am back in school. Does anyone have any suggestions in the State of Nevada?
I already checked TONIK with Blue Cross but it’s awfully expensive.
Thanks guys!
Kill: Ed Hardy is douchey, quit spamming your crap on my question.
Alright, quit spamming crap everyone, take it elsewhere.
MbrCatz, thanks for responding (and not being spam
). Now judging by your profile you’re extremely knowledgeable about the industry, so why don’t they give incentives to people who are physically active? I know in some car insurance companies your premiums go up if you have an accident and are at fault, and at the same time some go down if you’re a safe driver. Wouldn’t someone like me be “less of a risk”?

Nope. Premiums are not negotiable, and they don’t really care if you have a gym membership or not, sorry.
