Question : Can I combine my Roth IRA account with my wife’s account or do they need to remain separate?
We would like to create an account or accounts with a custodian that allows non-traditional transactions like purchasing real estate or tax leins within a self directed Roth IRA or the 401K-IRA.

you must have separate accounts because the account is your own and each of you can have different beneficiaries

Each of your accounts were set up separately. In order for you to combine them the old accounts would have to be closed and the proceeds would become taxable.
