Question : Affordable health insurance in Arizona?
My dad needs to find some good health insurance in Arizona. He wants to cover himself and my little brother. Any suggestions?

If your father has been without health insurance for 6 months, the state sponsors a plan. I think it is called Health Net. It is for businesses with 1-25(?) employees but the price is worth taking out a business license for. You can find more information through the AHCCCS website – but it’s NOT connected with AHCCCS and it’s not Medicaid. There is no income requirement. You can probably find it through the state of AZ website as well.
Arizona also has a discount RX card for prescriptions too that is open to anyone in the state for mail order. It’s pretty good. But the Health Net plan includes a standard formularly for prescriptions.

You’ll want to talk with an independent agent. This person knows the plans in your area and can find the best plan for your situation and budget.
Someone above me answered about the Arizona health care plan. It is not Health Net. It is Healthcare Group of Arizona. It is for the self employeed and small groups up to 50. They are not currently accepting new applications though and a business license is not proof to get on the plan.
Be very wary of medical discount cards. They are not regulated by the Department of Insurance nor do the people that sell them need to be licensed. This means you have little recourse when you have problems with the plan. If you are tempted by the low price and claims of “save up to 80%” be aware that very few doctors actually take these cards. It does you little good if you have to drive 4 hours to find a doctor that will accept the card. Montana couldn’t find any doctors in the whole state that actually took the card and only one dentist who was on probation for unlawful activities so they banned the sale of the card and fined the company. Before signing up with any discount plan get a list of doctors. If they won’t give you a list consider it to be a scam. Call the doctors on the list to make sure they’re still taking the card (many don’t even know that they’re listed as a provider) and that they’re accepting new patients.
