Can I book an Australian hotel with a UK debit card?
Question : Can I book an Australian hotel with a UK debit card?
I’m trying to book a room in an Australian hotel online, but when I got to the last page I found they only accept credit cards! I don’t have a credit card, just a UK debit card. Is there any other way I can book with them or is it impossible?
Thanks for your replies – I did it via the Flight Centre in the end, sometimes easier to do things face to face.

If it is a Mastercard or Visa debit card then yes. You treat it the same as a credit card. But if it is a bank ATM card then no.

You could try calling the hotel however when you stay at the hotel you may need to show a credit card or in some instances the hotel may require you to leave a cash payment which is refundable once you leave the hotel. Remember to get the persons name you called and to ask for an email confirming anything they say regarding your debit card. also take into account the time difference when calling.

The only debit card they will accept is a Visa or Mastercard debit. Where it works like a credit card but with your own money. You can not reserve accommodation online via eftpos.
If that is your only option I suggest you email the hotel and see what they can do. Perhaps you need to pay up front by bank deposit.
