Would I be better off suing a company for reporting a debt that was paid?
Question : Would I be better off suing a company for reporting a debt that was paid?
I owed a $ 149.00 bebt that was paid on 2/2007 (I have the proof that it was paid), but is still being reported on my credit report as unpaid. Can i sue and recover more than the $ 149.00? Considering the caost of a lawyer’s consultation fee, etc…
would it be worth it to sue, or just send evidence of payment, along with a letter to the company and have them remove the debt as required by law?

Better then what? Having somebody shoot nails into your head with a nail gun, sure.
Other then that don’t act lke you won the lottery, you didn’t.
Simply ask the company to correct the error.
Would not be worth it to sue as you would have meet a due diligence standard that you tried to resolve the matter by providing proof of payment to the debtor.
Instead of just sending evidence of payment to the company, do so more publically by filing a complaint online with the Better Business Bureau, filing a dispute with the credit reporting agency that is showing the bill unpaid along with your dispute to the company. Both have stringent time limits and will force the company to respond in a timely manner.
