Question : Umm what do I do if I havent paid taxes ever?
Boy I know IRS is gonna come after me for this, but I havent filed for taxes in 7 years .. Really never I worked a lot of odd jobs but never had them long enough to file. I know the government is gonna come after me unless I use the IRS is illegal defense. Quite frankly, I would rather just file. So my question is could I file for the years I didnt file and pray they dont audit me or should I just get ready to go to jail?

Yes, you should contact a tax attorney if you were required to file income taxes and didn’t.
However, not everyone that works is required to file an income tax return. Each year’s filing requirements are different, but here’s the requirements for 2006. If your gross income was under these amounts, you do not have to file a tax return:
– single under age 65: $ 8,450
– single age 65 and over: $ 9,700
– married filing jointly (both spouses under age 65): $ 16,900
– married filing jointly (one spouse under age 65): $ 17,900
– married filing jointly (both spouses age 65 and over): $ 18,900
– married filing separately (any age): $ 3,300
– head of household & qualifying widow(er): varies based on special situations.The rules for a single person claimed as a dependent on someone else’s tax return are a little more complicated, and are based on earned income and unearned income (interest, scholarships, capital gains), so it’s a little more involved.
Unfortunately, if you were self-employed and made over $ 400, you must file (even if you made less than the amounts above).
I suggest looking at your W-2s and pay stubs, and complete each tax return for the past 7 years to see if you really had to file.
This will also be a chance to see if the IRS owes you any money.
If you don’t have your old W-2s, one place to get old income information (besides contacting your past employers) is from the social security administration, which keeps track of your reported income.

best to come in from the cold…quite possibly you didnt owe much if any taxes from odd jobs. If you still have the w 2s I would contact the local IRS office and make arrangements with them to come in and work it out. Its not in their best interest to tear you up. You could also just file the past years, using each past year paperwork, follow instructions of the forms re penalties and all, and see how that goes.

Talk to an attorney who specializes in US federal income tax. He may be able to work out a settlement that eliminates interest charges and keeps you out of jail.
If you do anything on your own, you will be raising a red flag the IRS will come looking for you. You have to put your Social Security number on any tax return. An automated computer search will alert auditors that there have been no prior filings. - Comment Feed for this Post
File before they catch up with you. Contact an EA or CPA and have them enter a POA for you on E-services and pull wage and income transcripts for you and prepare the open year returns. You may have refunds. File your returns pay the balance due and hope they don’t come after you for the earlier years. Then go forth and sin no more.
