Question : Why do us responsible people bother to do the right thing when everyone else gets a free ride via the gov?
Seems that people that irresponsibly took out loans they couldn’t pay back for houses are getting bailed out, people with excessive credit card debt can get bailed out while the rest of us have to deal with high taxes and increasing government oppression.
The credit card bail out has been in place for years now – called bankruptcy.

the individuals that took out flexible or high interest loans aren’t getting bailouts. the companies that made those loans are. the feds buying mortgages doesn’t forgive them, they still have to pay mortgages, it’s just that the lenders get their money up front, ergo, taxpayers via the feds have to wait 20-30 years to get that money back. (don’t think we individually will see any rebate checks from it though. surprise. surprise.)

Yeah–that was the case for the last 2 years or so. Do you know that the people losing their houses now are the responsible people you are talking about? That’s right, these are the people who LOST THEIR JOBS because of this financial fiasco and now they are also foreclosing. Perhaps you should look around and see what is really going on. The whole thing is a mess.

That is not true. Over credit card using people are not in the picture. people that had foreclosure homes are not getting their money back.They will be offered a fixed mortgage if their credit is Ok and that is all. i do know how you feel as they should have never been approved to begin with. Now they are destroying these homes before they move out and it will cost allot more to resell them.Classy people? i do not feel one bit sorry for them.

We responsible people can still hold our heads high and look at ourselves in the mirror without disgust. The irresponsible people who thought they had to “keep up with the Joneses” have no pride or the backbone to do whatever it takes to correct their behavior. I feel good in knowing I can do the right thing because I can’t stand the way I would feel about myself otherwise.

I asked this same question earlier today with the wording a little different but stiill the same idea. I had to laugh at some of the attitudes. I fully agree with your details. You have to know ahead of time if your income will support your mortgage. These irresponsible people should have to fend for themselves.Tough crap for them is what I say. I live within my means and still have home. One person said to let the “higher ups” worry about stuff like that.Head in the sand? Who the hell got us in the mess in the first place?

We have created a welfare state that has grown into and Entitlement State as well. Some Democratic Senators and House members believe that everyone should own a house. Although that seems like a nice thought, it’s not realistic. Unfortunately these Dems forced lending institutions to make risky loans to people who wouldn’t have qualified to begin with be cause they felt that everyone should be “given” the American dream. The American dream is one starts with “If you work hard and sacrifice, you can gain wealth and prosperity in this country”. Unfortunately it appears that some folks feel that instead of work and sacrifice (the kind you and I and many others have made to get where they are) they feel entitled to have a house, and these Democratic Senators and Congressman agree.
This whole thought process stifles hard working folks who have made the sacrifices and want to reap the fruits of their labor. Instead we will be paying for all those folks who jumped on the entitlement band wagon as well as those who profited from that same band wagon.
As poor as I started, I never took any help from the Government. I did not get a college education, I never received a hand up or a hand out and I have done extremely well for myself. I make no excuses nor do I accept any. I live by the motto “Excuses are of interest but of no value”.
The American Dream is still alive for those that want to work for it and are will to put it on the line. Alas, there are always those who are not will but will always have their hand out.
