according to hot jobs, an accounting assistant job (mg careers) opened up in my area and it says that a degree isn’t not mandatory but salaries will be higher with a degree. i don’t have a job period so the lower salary would be good enough for me lol. anyway heres what they say the duties will be:
Maintain Payroll
Data entry and filling of financial records
Produce and distribute billing invoices
Assist in the preparation of financial statements
Provide audit support
Shared responsibility for accounts payable/receivable
Other finance related actives
i managed to get my hands on a complete lynda.com video training package for quickbooks pro 2008. will learning how to use quickbooks allow me to do all of those things listed? the job offer says training is available but i was thinking that if i already knew how to do all of that stuff then maybe i’ll have a better chance.

Quickbooks is in fact capable of all the data-based things on your list. The problem though could be that if YOU don’t know accounting, you aren’t going to be able to properly use Quickbooks, regardless of if you watch some videotape about it. If you already know basic accounting and are a good team player, no problem, go for it.
Quickbooks itself doesn’t teach you accounting principles, the video will just give you some tips on how to use the program.
