Question : My husband recently lost his job in a software firm now can we have medical insurance for kids nd not parents?
Hi My husband lost his job in a software firm and we cannot afford for medical insurance now so is there an option that we can pay insurance only for the kids and not us both elders. Or there any other way that we can skip this insurance and still get medical help when required . Pls try to help me.

We live in NJ and is there any policy for 2 kids for $ 50 a month or less than that. Thnaks

Under COBRA, I believe you can only continue the policy as originally issued by work, not cherry pick coverage. For more info, see the Department of Labor website

Many states have child health insurance – New York calls it Child Health Plus. Premiums are income-based, and the kids are covered until they’re 19 – as long as mom and dad recertify it every year as required. Contact Social Services in your area to find out if your state offers it and how to apply. (NY’s plans are run by Social Services.)
OR, get at least hospitalization insurance to keep you from going bankrupt in the event of an emergency, and be a self-paying patient to your primary doctor. My office offers a 20% discount to self-paying patients, and vaccines are provided by the state. -

Yes, you can cover just your kids and not you and your husband, but not on the COBRA plan your husband’s former employer will offer after his termination.
Details vary by state, but generally, there are a lot of options. Go and talk to an independent agent near you, and they will counsel you through your options until you find something that fits your needs. It doesn’t have to break the bank in order to insure a family.
