He’s terrible with money, so I do all the managing of it. If he writes a check, he just tells me right away so I can take care of the checkbook.

The common checking account should be used to pay house expenses like utilities and groceries. You both put a established amount in there each month. You should also have a saving account in which you both save for emergencies and trips and fun stuff. If there’s anything left on your paycheck it’s yours on your personal account.

We have a joint account and we’ve never had problems. We rarely use checks, except for certain mail out bills, and most of the debit card transactions hit instantly. Having online access makes it easy to keep on top of things. Then again, my husband and I discuss our budget and neither of us spend outside of it.
My ex, on the other hand, made sure to write hot checks and overdraw every joint account we’ve ever had.
Hopefully you’ve chosen a mature person as a spouse and don’t have to worry about people like my ex. Boy was I stupid.
