Is Bank of America CampusEdge (student) Checking good, better than the rest?
1Question : Is Bank of America CampusEdge (student) Checking good, better than the rest?
I’m entering college in the fall and I want to create a student checking account. Bank of America and Wachovia are convenient to campus, but my parents have an account with Chase. I want to know if Bank of America’s student checking is fair, cheap, and amiable to their student customers. Suggestions towards Chase & Wachovia are welcome too.

I say go with Soverign.
I would stay clear of Bank of america. Some would disagree but their customer service is horrible. If you need to speak with someone about your account, you’ll be on the phone for an hour minimum and waiting at the bank for atleast 40 minutes.
Although BOA ATMs are every where… that’s the only advantage.
Sovereign is good because they don’t charge for ATM use at ATMs that are not owned by sovereign. If you use a BOA ATM card at maybe a Citizens bank atm… BOA will charge you and so will Citizens. For Sovereign atm cards, only the other bank will charge.
I just think it’s better overall in the long run.

settling credit card debt with Bank of America?
1Question : settling credit card debt with Bank of America?
Has anybody defaulted on their BofA credit cards very recently? If so, how much was your balance (if you don’t mind saying)? And if they sold it to a collection agency, how long after you had defaulted did they sell it off?
I’m asking because I’m about to default on my BofA credit card (over $ 30k) and I just got a letter saying that they will consider selling to a collection agency soon after default. I personally would like to deal with BofA’s collection department to settle the debt instead of trying to settle with a collection agency. So I’m wondering what BofA has been doing lately with their large (or small) defaulted accounts.
Any help would be appreciated… thanks

You can always try to settle if you have already defaulted…Make an offer of 50% (assuming you have the money) and see what they say…there is no harm in asking.
- Get all terms of any settlement deal you reach with debt collectors IN WRITING BEFORE you give them your money. This letter should state the settlement amount and that the account will be settled/paid in full upon receipt of this amount from you. Keep the letter in a safe place. Never accept settlement deals over the phone that are not backed up in written terms. If you don’t, the debt collectors will deny that any settlement was ever made once they get your “settlement” money and will come back demanding more money from you…or they will resell your account to another collection agency months/years later that will start the collection process all over again and you’ll have no proof that the account was paid in full.
- Settled/Forgiven debt is treated like earned income with the IRS…any debt that is forgiven must be added to your next year’s income and you’ll have to pay whatever additional taxes
What do you know about Mortgage Lenders of America?
1Question : What do you know about Mortgage Lenders of America?
My husband and I are a young military couple looking to buy our first house. We can’t be approved for a mortgage loan through our bank because my husband has only been in the Navy for 1 year (they require 2 years in the same field). We have applied through Lending Tree and recieved a really good offer from Mortgage Lenders of America. Has anyone else worked with them? I’ve visited their website, but want to know more information from someone who has worked with them personally. This is a HUGE investment for us, and we don’t want to make a mistake. Thanks in advance!

I don’t know that Lender. However, I don’t recommend an ARM (adjustable rate mortgage) loan. The interests rate does go up….get a fix rate loan if you plan to live there for a while. PS. put some money down when you buy the house…..if not….when you sell your home… your loan might be higher than the home what the house is worth….you end up paying money when to sell the home.
Have you read the Tea party “Contract from America”?
1Question : Have you read the Tea party “Contract from America”?
Note: “***” = Editorial comment
1. Protect the Constitution
Require each bill to identify the specific provision of the Constitution that gives Congress the power to do what the bill does. (82.03%)
***How about Article I Section 8 : The Congress shall have Power To…To make all Laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into Execution the foregoing Powers, and all other Powers vested by this Constitution in the Government of the United States, or in any Department or Officer thereof.
2. Reject Cap & Trade
Stop costly new regulations that would increase unemployment, raise consumer prices, and weaken the nation’s global competitiveness with virtually no impact on global temperatures. (72.20%)
***Republican Agenda
3. Demand a Balanced Budget
Begin the Constitutional amendment process to require a balanced budget with a two-thirds majority needed for any tax hike. (69.69%)
***Impossible
4. Enact Fundamental Tax Reform
Adopt a simple and fair single-rate tax system by scrapping the internal revenue code and replacing it with one that is no longer than 4,543 words—the length of the original Constitution. (64.90%)
***Libertarian dream
5. Restore Fiscal Responsibility & Constitutionally Limited Government in Washington
Create a Blue Ribbon taskforce that engages in a complete audit of federal agencies and programs, assessing their Constitutionality, and identifying duplication, waste, ineffectiveness, and agencies and programs better left for the states or local authorities, or ripe for wholesale reform or elimination due to our efforts to restore limited government consistent with the US Constitution’s meaning. (63.37%)
***Limit Government by establishing a New Task force (need I say more)
6. End Runaway Government Spending
Impose a statutory cap limiting the annual growth in total federal spending to the sum of the inflation rate plus the percentage of population growth. (56.57%)
***I thought you were going to balance the budget…There will BE no Government spending.
7. Defund, Repeal, & Replace Government-run Health Care
Defund, repeal and replace the recently passed government-run health care with a system that actually makes health care and insurance more affordable by enabling a competitive, open, and transparent free-market health care and health insurance system that isn’t restricted by state boundaries. (56.39%)
*** Republican Agenda
8. Pass an ‘All-of-the-Above” Energy Policy
Authorize the exploration of proven energy reserves to reduce our dependence on foreign energy sources from unstable countries and reduce regulatory barriers to all other forms of energy creation, lowering prices and creating competition and jobs. (55.51%)
***You already are voting against it
9. Stop the Pork
Place a moratorium on all earmarks until the budget is balanced, and then require a 2/3 majority to pass any earmark. (55.47%)
***I thought you were going balance the freakin budget… There WILL BE NO SPENDING!
10. Stop the Tax Hikes
Permanently repeal all tax hikes, including those to the income, capital gains, and death taxes, currently scheduled to begin in 2011. (53.38%)
***And you are going to do all of this without taxes.

bank of america scammed me on credit card debt deal?
5Question : bank of america scammed me on credit card debt deal?
B of A made a verbal agreement over the phone with me that if I payed 5k then the rest of the debt would be forgiven. I did this and now they are threatening that if I dont pay an additional 6k(which I dont have) by next week they will take me to court for the total amont of 17k. I made agreements before with other creditors over the phone and had no problems. I am trying to clean up my credit mess but i have been taken advantage of. I should have got it in writing but it is now too late. Is there anything I can do??? This seems illegal for them to do such a thing. Do I have a leg to stand on in court???

I kinda doubt it since it was a verbal agreement, I had the same problem with them, I sent what they asked for, and they put it as a charge off for the whole amount,
What parts of the “Contract from America” do you agree with? What is your political leaning?
3Question : What parts of the “Contract from America” do you agree with? What is your political leaning?
First the use of the preposition “from” in this case strike me as negative. Why is everything so negative?
Anyway here’s the agenda:
1. Identify constitutionality of every new law: Require each bill to identify the specific provision of the Constitution that gives Congress the power to do what the bill does (82.03%).
2. Reject emissions trading: Stop the “cap and trade” administrative approach used to control pollution by providing economic incentives for achieving reductions in the emissions of pollutants. (72.20%).
3. Demand a balanced federal budget: Begin the Constitutional amendment process to require a balanced budget with a two-thirds majority needed for any tax modification. (69.69%)
4. Simplify the tax system: Adopt a simple and fair single-rate tax system by scrapping the internal revenue code and replacing it with one that is no longer than 4,543 words — the length of the original Constitution.(64.9%).
5. Audit federal government agencies for constitutionality: Create a Blue Ribbon task force that engages in an audit of federal agencies and programs, assessing their Constitutionality, and identifying duplication, waste, ineffectiveness, and agencies and programs better left for the states or local authorities. (63.37%)
6. Limit annual growth in federal spending: Impose a statutory cap limiting the annual growth in total federal spending to the sum of the inflation rate plus the percentage of population growth. (56.57%).
7. Repeal the health care legislation passed on March 23, 2010: Defund, repeal and replace the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. (56.39%).
8. Pass an ‘All-of-the-Above’ Energy Policy: Authorize the exploration of additional energy reserves to reduce American dependence on foreign energy sources and reduce regulatory barriers to all other forms of energy creation. (55.5%).
9. Reduce Earmarks: Place a moratorium on all earmarks until the budget is balanced, and then require a 2/3 majority to pass any earmark. (55.47%).
10. Reduce Taxes: Permanently repeal all recent tax increases, and extend permanently the George W. Bush temporary reductions in income tax, capital gains tax and estate taxes, currently scheduled to end in 2011. (53.38%).
The percentages are the percent of online votes for each one used in creating the Contract.
I am a liberal and would like to see a lot of this. I only really disagree with 2 and 7, no tax and cap and getting rid of the health care legislation.
1 and 5 are not as needed and we might find that we may like some of those “unconstitutional” laws and agencies and we may want to have an amendment or two. I don’t say get rid of those two, just don’t assume that the result would be what you expect.
Also, I find it interesting that in something so obviously Conservative, only 56% said get rid of “Obamacare”.
Peace – I am probably a fiscal conservative, which is what most of what this contract deals with. Most certainly socially liberal.
And my fiscal conservatism has limits. Not like what you have suggested.
And Peace, you are exaggerating.
