I live in Florida and there is no such thing as CHEAP homeowners insurance here at all. After what happened with those hurricanes (Rita, Wilma, etc.), insurance companies are pretty much afraid of homes here, the claims reversed 5 years of profits in one swipe.
The State had to step in to provide insurance unless a company stepped forward and was willing to offer insurance. Well a few did but they are DAMN expensive and becaue the State’s insurance is last resort, you pretty much HAVE to take the private insurance or go without – which of course lots of mortgage companies and banks would not like.
