Why is my computer running SO slow? It seems to be locking up too?
5Question : Why is my computer running SO slow? It seems to be locking up too?
For the last week, and intermittently for two weeks my computer keeps running so slow. Sometimes, the screen(s) that I have open lock up.
I checked to see if I needed to defrag my computer. The audit or whatever that is, says that I do not need to defrag. I’m inclined to do it anyway. I read somewhere that when I check to see if I need to defrag and the program indicates that there’s no need to at this time that I shouldnt defrag it unless it’s warranted. Not that it would hurt to do it anyway…
I ran a malware software program: Malwarebytes is the program name. I ran a deep scan and it indicated that there were no spyware/malware installed or showing up.
I use VIPER virus software and it does a scan every morning. No detectable virus at this time.
I do watch quite a bit of media online. I also have my Yahoo window open frequently (ha ha always)
I almost always have 2 word documents open at the same time (along with media and yahoo email page)
I likely also have other website up that I am researching.
I have these open for convenience. Im seeking new employment and keep my job search windows open, the yahoo email window open so I can respond to job postings, the word doc’s are my resume and cover letter documents open…all this open while I have the media page open. Watching a program while I work.
So, the computer tells me that there is no spyware/malware interfering. The virus scan comes back clean. The defrag indication says I’m okay there and I dont need to defrag.
Someone mentioned that I should clean the registry. I have no idea what that means or how to do it or even if it’s needed.
Three months ago, my buddy that works at AMD said he added more memory on here for me. So, apparently I’m good there.
Can some of you IT guru’s help me out? Please, if it’s not a tremendous imposition, explain the solution (if you can identify the problem) in detail…detail…detail. Respond as though I am five years old….please. I wont take offense. Actually, it’s likely that a five year old will understand better than I so that may have been a bad example…but you know what I mean.
Also, when I try to (x) out or close some of the open windows when the computer is locking up or going so so so slow. The computer will not even let me (x) out or close that page. Argh….
Other than having possibly too many windows open at once, what do you suggest I do? Perhaps I just shouldnt have THAT many windows open at once. It’s not that I need a lightening fast computer — although that would be terrific — but it is SO slow and locks up.
Help please! Many of you are so tremendously intelligent and knowing — I just need help and I’m grateful for it!
Thanks in advance!
Take care!!
…Be Well!
Thank you Tassler and MS!! Thank you So very Much!!! I get so frustrated with it! Tassler — yes, I believe you are likely correct. My computer is about 7 years old or so. Yes, you are right, they get old fast…newer better and faster computers always outlasting outdoing and out computerrring the generations before the last launch. Cant afford a new one now….and I need to get a laptop as well. I do international trade and I am ALWAYS on my computer. Im an addict! ha ha. Anyway! Thanks to you two…all of you for your kindness and your great help and suggestions!

How to Use Your Health Savings Account to Slow Down Your Ageing Process
0One of the best aspects of having a Health Savings Account is that you can control your medical care. If you want to have a medical test or procedure done that is not covered by your health insurance, you pay for it with pre-tax money from your health savings account. One of the processes of aging that scientists have been learning more about in recent years is glycation, and the formation of Advanced Glycation Endproducts, or AGEs. Here’s how to reduce this harmful process, and a simple test you can pay for from your Health Savings Account to see how you’re doing.
What is “Glycation” and what are AGEs?
When we take a piece of bread and put it in the toaster, it slowly turns brown. This is the result of a natural process called the “Maillard reaction”, in which sugars react with proteins. It is this process that gives flavor to beer, pizza crust, and roasted coffee.
The same process naturally happens in the human body. (So in a sense, we all slowly “brown” as we age). When a protein in your body is “glycated”, it has a sugar molecule attached to it, and can then bond to another protein in your body in a process called “cross-linking”. These damaged proteins result in the formation of Advanced Glycation Endproducts.
Exposure to AGEs in the body contributes to inflammation and to a large variety of age-related diseases, including cataracts, joint stiffness, Alzheimer’s disease, and cardiovascular diseases. Some AGEs increase the risk of auto-immune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, and others increase the risk of cancer.
Reduce AGEs in your Food
When experimental mice are fed a low-AGE diet, they have better cardiovascular health, better kidney health, better blood sugar management, and they live longer. AGE formation is increased when foods are cooked at high temperatures, and for longer periods of time. You can significantly reduce AGEs created in food preparation by using boiling, poaching, or stewing rather than frying or grilling.
So one strategy is to simply reduce your consumption of “browned” foods. So for instance, fried shrimp will have way more harmful AGE compounds than boiled shrimp.
How to Reduce AGE Formation in your Body
AGE formation is particularly high in diabetics, due to uncontrolled sugar levels in the body. This is one of the reasons why they suffer from increased rates kidney disease, vision loss, and cardiovascular disease.
Millions of Americans who have not been diagnosed as diabetic still have glucose handling difficulties, typically diagnosed as “metabolic syndrome”. It is becoming more and more evident that a diet low in foods that raise blood sugar rapidly (typically the “white” foods like bread, pasta, rice, and sugar) will reduce a person’s risk of diabetes or metabolic syndrome. This in turn will also reduce your body’s AGE formation.
Supplements You Can Take
Numerous dietary supplements have now been shown to reduce glycation, cross-linking, and AGE formation. Some experts recommend the following supplements, typically 500 mg to 1 gram of each, per day:
* Carnosine
* Benfotiamine
* Alpha-lipoic acid
* Acetyl-l-carnitine
* Curcumin
If your health care practitioner recommends supplements for the prevention or treatment of a specific health condition, you can pay for them from your HSA.
A common blood test that diabetics have done is Glycated Hemoglobin A1c. This measures how much the red blood cells have become glycated over the past one to three months, and is seen as an indicator of average blood sugar levels.
Stay Healthy, Grow Your Health Savings Account
So be proactive – fund your HSA to the max, do what you can to optimize your health, and let your account grow.
Car Insurance Companies Seeking Safety Features to Lower Costs But Car Insurance Companies Slow to Reduce Costs for the Insured
0Insurance companies create opportunities for car insurance policy deductions by following the results of safety crash tests and trends in car safety statistics from accidents. However the automobile industry is adding safety features faster than car insurance companies can test them.
Car safety features are a rising force that contributes to lower car insurance claims and accident injury and death rates, however insurance companies aren’t quick to offer deductions for safety features. Don’t assume you’re going to arm your budget with car insurance deductions simply because you’ve armed your car with safety features galore. Car manufacturers will rave about their new safety features, and safety organisations will promote their practicalities and plead for the safety features to become mandatory. However, car insurance companies don’t take the manufacturer’s word that safety features work. They want to see proven results over time. Until time has passed and accident reports are collected and analyzed, the deductions for new safety feature aren’t likely to be included in a car insurance policy.
There are many new, unique safety features on the market in the latest hottest cars, however studies are showing that not all of these will promote a cheap insurance rate. It’s not unusual for a new safety feature to be tested for three years or more before car insurance companies implement safety deductions into their policy features. New safety features will not result in a lower insurance premium until it is demonstrated through history that the new safety features contribute to lower accident rates. Asking your insurance company specifically which safety features will reduce your premium can go a long way in your car buying decision and your car insurance premium costs.
